Don’t Open Bogus Emails that Claim to Come from United Federal Credit Union
October 30, 2007

A fraudulent email is circulating saying it is from United Federal Credit Union. The email states that you have one new message at United Federal Credit Union and contains a link asking for personal information. This email is NOT from UFCU. As with any suspicious email, we warn recipients not to click on links within the email. Click here to view the email.

One spoof email includes a phony sender’s address, making it appear the email is from “service@unitedfcu.com” and also spoofs the return-path and reply-to fields to hide the email’s true origin. Recipients should forward the email to spam@uce.gov and then delete it. Emails sent to that address are kept in the FTC’s spam database to assist with investigations.

Simply opening the email does not appear to cause harm.

If you have clicked on the link within this email and entered personal information please notify the Credit Union by email at tech@unitedfcu.com or call our toll-free Call Center at 888-982-1400.

Call Center hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

United Federal Credit Union will never send you an email asking you to verify account information. We will also never threaten to close your account via email.   If you receive a suspicious-looking email message claiming to be from UFCU, please contact our Call Center toll-free at 888-982-1400. We continually monitor such reports and act on them promptly.
